Tilapia is a low-fat, white-fleshed fish that is sweet, fine-textured and doesn't taste fishy. Enjoy your Tilapia by baking, broiling, grilling or steaming it.
Beautiful, Healthy & Tasty Fish to Enjoy!
The history of Tilapia can be traced back over 4,500 years to Ancient Egypt with its origins in the Nile River. Tilapia has been called St. Peter's Fish since early Biblical times because it is believed to be the fish that Jesus fed the multitudes in the biblical parable.
The fish used in your Portable FarmTM are hybrid Tilapia or catfish, or perhaps several fish depending on availability and your State regulations. We recommend hybrid Tilapia and we can provide you with a steady supply for stocking your system. Tilapia are severely restricted for use in some parts of California therefore we will need to know where you plan to set up your Portable FarmTM in order to comply with the local and state regulations.
In other states and territories, there are different or no restrictions, so please be aware that the system will work using nearly any warm-water fresh fish that can be raised in captivity.
You can grow many different kinds of warm water fish such as fin fish, crayfish, tropical fish, Koi, or any other favorite freshwater species that the local Fish and Game allows in your location. The fish are the nutrient source for your garden so the species you use depend on what you want to do with the fish. Some people raise them to eat. We eat our Tilapia and enjoy them regularly. It's the fact that you have fish in your Portable FarmTM and that you're feeding them that is important.
To work efficiently, the Portable FarmTM does require fish of some type to provide the essential nutrients for your plants. If you do not want to eat your fish, you can give them to friends who do eat fish, sell them, or simply enjoy them as 'pets'. Some species and individual fish last for years.
The three Tilapia (above) from our Portable FarmTM are nearly ready to eat. We wait to 'harvest' our fish until they are about a pound and a quarter in size. These fish are approximately 10 ounces and still growing.
Phyllis has written a cookbook that accompanies the Portable Farms KitTM that showcases the top ten Tilapia recipes that were voted on by our friends to win the Taste-Test Prize to be included in the cook book. The book is entitled, Ten Tantalizing Tilapia Recipes to Titillate Your Tastebuds.

FLOWERS
Phyllis Davis loves colorful bouquets of flowers and she grows her own flowers for the house and garden in their Portable FarmTM. She uses most of the second shelves in their Portable FarmsTM to grow her flowers from seeds and bulbs.
Grow all kinds of flowers all-year long!
In the spring, she grows a wide variety of tulips from bulbs. And in summer, she grows flowers from seeds that bloom in less than 90 days after planting the seeds, such as African Daisy's, Four O'Clock's, Cosmos, Johnny Jump Ups, and Double Sun Gold Sunflowers.
