List of Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why are you against using soil?
A. Please don't misunderstand us. We LOVE soil and composting, and know that it is an integral part of our ecosystem and we cannot live without it. Nothing can ever replace good ol' soil and the feeling of getting your hands dirty. However, when it comes to having a backyard farm with the goal of low-maintenance and high-yield harvests on a yearly basis, nothing is more stable, long-lasting, cost-effective, and time-saving than a Portable Farm Aquaponic System. The sustainable production of our Portable Farms simply surpasses traditional gardening methods in quality and numbers.

Q. Why are you against traditional gardening?
A. Again, please don't misunderstand us. We absolutely LOVE successful gardens that utilize water-wise systems and fulfill all creative visions. On the other hand, we do not condone water-wasting gardening habits. Revolution Farms offers Rainwater Harvesting solutions and services precisely for the purpose of giving people the freedom to have guilt-free gardens and trees of nearly any variety, without depleting limited water resources in their region.

Q. What can I grow in my Portable Farm?
A. You can grow basically any plants that are not deep-soil, roots or tubers, or plants that severely crowd vertically to steal sunlight from surrounding plants. Here's what we have currently growing in our 20ft x 30ft farm for Summer and Fall 2009:

Q. I love your logo, tell me about it!
A. Thanks, we do too! The Revolution Farms logo symbolizes the complete cycle of sustainable aquaponics. The sun provides thermal greenhouse energy, while the fish and produce dwell in a symbiotic relationship as the water continually flows from one to the other. The fish we chose to symbolize is the Japanese Koi, an Orenji Ogon (orange) of the Hikarimono (single colored) class. The artwork is by Jim Sprague Jr., and brought to Illustrator by Eugene of Octographics. We will soon have a variety of products available, featuring the artwork.

Q: Can the system work without fish?
A: Yes, but the system would then be considered hydroponics, which is far less superior in comparison to aquaponics. We will not separate the fish from the system for this reason. For those who do not want to eat their fish, many people (not only vegetarians) are choosing to grow Koi for pets.
