2. NO CHEMICALS or extra fertilizers are needed. How many precious hours of your life have you spent shopping for countless bottles of chemicals for this problem and that problem, and endless bags of fertilizers and soil?--And not to forget, the fuel used going to and from garden centers. Do you still have that collection of plastic pots scattered around the yard taking up valuable space? No one wants to mess with chemicals, especially when it comes to the food they eat.
3. SAVE WATER. With the Portable Farm Aquaponic System, watering your plants is automatic! You will only need to add about 25 gallons of water to the fish tank per week (that's negligible compared to traditional gardening or compared to an average 10-minute shower using 25-40 gallons). Plants absorb what water they need during each cycle, and the remaining water flows back to the fish tank with added oxygen. And because of no direct exposure to sunlight, very little water is wasted to evaporation; water that does evaporate is added to the humidity within the greenhouse, which plants love.
4. SAVE ENERGY. A greenhouse tailored to meet your needs will make your plants right at home. The fish tank is also insulated to retain heat, which also keeps the water warm to give the roots of your plants a lovely bath twice a day. On the grid, the typical energy usage of a 6x8 Portable Farm (without grow lights) is $.38 cents per day (SDGE). There is also the option of having an off-the-grid solar and/or wind powered Portable Farm.
5. SAVE TIME. With automated watering and feeding of fish, even a responsible child could easily maintain a Portable Farm with only 5-10 minutes a day checking up on the plants and fish, placing young plants into the grow trays, and harvesting whatever food is needed for each day from mature plants. 2. The Portable Farm is, inevitably, ORGANIC.

1. PLANTS: We use nothing but organic seeds from heirloom variety plants, and use nothing but organic fish feed; and therefore the "fertilizer" is also organic. Remember: all chemicals and other fertilizers have been eliminated. Truly sustainable, and truly pure food. You'll never want to go back to the supermarket for your produce. Instead you'll be asking, "What else can I grow in my farm?"
2. FISH: While the National Organic Standards Board has not yet set any standards for fish to be labeled as organic, tilapia and catfish are both herbivores and can be fed vegetable protein as their food source. Duckweed and algae will also be raised in your Portable Farm to provide additional, organic nutrient-rich feed for your fish.
3. ALWAYS FRESH: Spoilage is a huge problem in American refrigerators. We often lose track of where the veggies are and they get smooshed by other food items, soggy, and get rotten before we can use it. Waste of food also occurs when we are storing more food than we can eat before it spoils. With your Portable Farm, you can take whatever amount of food you need for each meal right off the plant, when you need it, and none is wasted. The plants continue to grow more edible, healthy goodness. And, for plants that don't do so well, which is rare but happens, you can feed them to the fish for organic meals.
